Apple continues to innovate as Steve Jobs announced on Wednesday the launch of a TV device, a new iPod line, an iTunes social network and further upgrades to the operating system for the iPhone, iPod Touch and the iPad.
Apple TV which hasn’t sold well in the past went through a major overhaul and is now a quarter of its original size and sells for cheaper at just $99. Though this announcement received moderate response, Apple made a better case for its Apple TV service which, according to analyst Michael Gartenberg of Altimeter Group “is to TV what the iPhone was to phones”.
Apple currently offers an app that turns the iPhone into a remote control for the Apple TV and Steve Jobs announced the intention to allow content to be streamed from other Apple devices on to the screen. Overtime Apple intends to go after a plan that would connect the television screen to the world of apps in the same way it has for the iPhone and the iPod touch which propelled sales.
